MEHRDAD MOHEBALI
Contemporary Iranian Artist
Biography
Mehrdad Mohebali (b. 1960, Tehran, Iran) is a Tehran-based painter. He graduated in Painting from the University of Tehran.
Working primarily on large-scale canvases, Mohebali brings together political figures, art-historical references, and ordinary people within distorted and theatrical compositions. His practice moves between surreal imagery and figurative painting, using intense colour, lighting, and exaggerated poses to create a sense of tension and distortion.
His work has been exhibited in Iran and internationally, including at the Lajevardi Foundation in Tehran, the Venice Biennale, Salsali Private Museum in Dubai, the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum.
