ALA DEHGHAN

Ala Dehghan (b. 1982, Tehran) is an Iranian artist whose practice brings together painting, collage, and mixed media. Working with images, objects, and everyday materials, she fragments and recombines existing forms to examine the relationship between personal experience, cultural memory, and contemporary social life.

Dehghan studied painting and Persian miniature in Tehran before receiving her MFA in Painting and Printmaking from Yale University School of Art in 2013. Her works often combine layers of painting and collage on paper and acetate, using processes of cutting, layering, and reconstruction to explore themes of femininity, loss, transformation, and displacement.

Her work has been presented in exhibitions across the United States, Europe, and Iran, including at the Queens Museum, The Kitchen, Leslie-Lohman Museum of Art, Thomas Erben Gallery, James Fuentes, and Thaddaeus Ropac. She has also participated in residencies at the Delfina Foundation in London and Vermont Studio Center. Dehghan is based in Brooklyn, New York.
